Apply for IBRO/Dana Brain Awareness Week Grants

Deadline Date: October 31, 2024

Donor Name: International Brain Research Organization

 Grant Size: $1000 to $10,000

Applications are now open for the IBRO/Dana Brain Awareness Week Grants to educate the public on the importance of neuroscience research, inspire greater awareness about the wonders of the brain and foster deeper discussions about the intersection of neuroscience and society.

The grants aim to bridge gaps in knowledge and promote global brain health awareness by supporting these outreach and awareness initiatives, particularly in regions challenged by a lack of resources, support, and public understanding of the brain. We especially encourage interdisciplinary projects that highlight the connection between neuroscience and society and engage diverse audiences in meaningful discussions around not only the benefits but also the ethical, legal, and societal implications of neuroscience research.

Resources for Neuroscience and Society Events

  • Franklin Institute Neuroscience & Society High School Curriculum: Offers and in-depth focus on neuroscience through the lens of societal issues relevant to high school students.
  • NISE Network Changing Brains Activities: A collection of public engagement and professional development resources about the brain, neuroscience, and neuroethics. Activities include:
    • What Makes “Us” Human: Explore what it means to be human and how human-like machines might become.
    • Neuro Futures Card Game: Prioritize cards with new neurotechnologies according to your own values and the values of others.
    • Neuro Futures Championship Game: Pit new neurotechnologies head-to-head using a sports-style bracket.

Funding Information

  • Maximum grant amount: 1,250 USD.
  • Funding priority will be given to interdisciplinary projects that actively engage diverse audiences in meaningful discussions about the intersection of neuroscience and society. While these initiatives are a key focus, projects centered solely on neuroscience or brain related activities, particularly for younger audiences, are also highly valued and encouraged.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Proposed BAW events may take place in countries anywhere outside of Europe.
  • Events must be held in 2025. While not required to occur during the official Brain Awareness Week, they must align with and promote the global Brain Awareness Week campaign.
