Applications are now open for the Allianz Climate Risk Award which focuses on excellent research projects regarding resilience, digitalization and weather risks expected to rise as a result of climate change.

The Allianz Climate Risk Award celebrates scientists at the start of their career whose work sheds light on the nexus between climate change and extreme weather events.

10 applicants are shortlisted by a jury of experts from industry and academia and their work is published in a Compendium on Allianz Re’s website. Out of the 10 shortlisted applicants, the top 3 finalists are invited to Munich, Germany, to present their research project at the Allianz Climate Risk Award Event.

Award Information

  • The winner of the Allianz Climate Risk Award 2024 will receive a monetary award of EUR 7.000.
  • The other finalists will receive a monetary award of EUR 3.000 each.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The eligibility requirements are as follows:
    • You are an individual author,
    • You submit only one paper,
    • You are a PhD student or a postdoctoral researcher (PhD students and postdoctoral researchers who have recently finished their research or graduated no more than two years before the time of the application can also WOO,
    • Your research project has advanced beyond the conceptual phase and has attained certain level of maturity, with anticipated results that are clearly presentable and articulable,
    • If you are selected as a finalist, you must attend the Allianz Climate Risk Award event in Munich and present your work in person.
    • The material submitted will not be returned to senders.

Selection Criteria

  • Innovation: Research project is focused on a compelling approach for assessing risks of natural catastrophes and how new technologies can help mitigate these risks and foster resilient societies.
  • Impact: Research project can make a difference on the current insurance practice and/or advance current practices around societal resilience.
  • Applicability: Research project addresses a relevant problem and is ideally connected to a practical solution.
  • Academic excellence: Sound research approach and methodology.
