The American University in Bulgaria (AUBG) invites applications for the Christo Grozev Investigative Journalism Fellowship, a cornerstone initiative aimed at empowering the next generation of journalistic talent.
The mission of the Fellowship is to foster an empowered, globally connected cohort of investigative journalists equipped to tackle the complex challenges of the 21st century, safeguard democracy, and counter disinformation through meticulous, fearless, and ethically grounded journalism. The Christo Grozev Fellowship for Courageous Journalism at the Center for Information, Democracy, and Citizenship (CIDC) at the American University in Bulgaria (AUBG) is dedicated to supporting and nurturing the next generation of investigative journalists. This fellowship seeks individuals who demonstrate a strong commitment to factual journalism, exposing truth, promoting transparency, and holding power to account.
The program includes in-person immersion at AUBG, mentorship from seasoned investigative journalists, and opportunities for cross-border collaboration. You will also have access to resources and support to undertake significant investigative projects that uphold democratic principles and promote human rights.
About Program
- Duration: 12-month non-resident fellowship.
- Residency: Two-week workshop/training in Bulgaria.
- Stipend: A competitive stipend to cover living expenses and travel to AUBG, and contribution to investigative project.
- Mentorship and Training: Guidance from Christo Grozev and other leading figures in the field. Workshops and training sessions in investigative techniques, data analysis, digital security, ethical journalism, and Open Source Intelligence (OSINT).
- Investigative Project: Each fellow will undertake a significant investigative journalism project to be published or broadcast by a recognized media outlet.
- Christo Grozev Award for Courageous Journalism: An award for a fellow whose work during the program most effectively embodies the spirit of courage, integrity, and impact.
Eligibility Criteria
- Open to early to mid-career journalists with a proven track record in investigative reporting.
- A demonstrated commitment to a career in investigative journalism is essential. Journalists from around the world are encouraged to apply, particularly from regions where press freedom is under threat.
