Are you interested in photography and the agri-food industry? Send your images for a chance to win top prize in #MEDAField2Fork2024 photo contest, sponsored by The Marketplace magazine.

This year’s contest is open to photographers from around the globe! Send three of your best-quality images that highlight the agri-food sector, along with a 150-word summary (in total, not of each photo) to provide context. Photos can depict the production, processing, distribution, or sale of food to end users. Keep in mind that pictures with one or two people in them are sometimes more attractive than photos that just show a crop.

Prize Information

  • The prizes will be awarded, as follows:
    • 1st Prize: $500 USD
    • 2nd Prize: $250 USD
    • 3rd Prize: $100 USD
  • One cash prize per person. In order to receive a prize, winners must sign a release and license, as well as a declaration of eligibility, and will be responsible for paying any fees or taxes they may owe on a prize. Payment may be made in the method MEDA deems appropriate, with service charges paid by MEDA. Currency may be exchanged to local currency at MEDA’s discretion at the then-current exchange rate as determined by MEDA.
  • Winning entries will be displayed in the November 2024 issue of The Marketplace magazine, and on the social channels.

What to enter?

  • Send up to three images that highlight the agri-food sector, along with a 150-word summary (in total, not for each photo) to provide context. Photos can depict any part of the production, processing, or distribution and sale of food to end users. Preference may be given to photos that include one or two people in the shot.
  • Cropped photos are eligible. They do not accept digitally or otherwise enhanced or altered photos. Minor adjustments, including spotting, dodging, and burning, sharpening, contrast and slight color adjustment or the digital equivalents, are acceptable for all categories. If the judges determine that a photographer has altered his or her photo except for the expressly authorized changes above, they reserve the right to disqualify it.
  • For a photo in which a person is recognizable, the recognizable person must not be a minor and you must secure a model release from the subject and provide it to MEDA with your submission.
  • Submissions of this nature which do not include the model form of release, which you can open through the link provided in the preceding sentence, or that fail to meet a minimum 1-2MB picture resolution, will be disqualified.
  • Similarly, entrants whose photos depict other people’s work (such as sculptures, statues, paintings, and other copyrightable works) may need to obtain a release from the rights holder and provide it to MEDA upon request. When photographing the work of others, it must be as an object in its environment and not a full-frame close-up of another person’s creation.
  • To be eligible, your submission must be your original work and must not infringe or violate the rights of others. By entering the contest and submitting your submission, you represent and warrant that your submission is your original work and that you took the photograph submitted.
  • By submitting your submission, you further represent and warrant that your submission does not violate or infringe on another person’s rights, including, but not limited to, privacy, publicity, copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property right. MEDA shall determine the eligibility of your submission in its sole and absolute discretion.
  • MEDA may use your submission in connection with internal and external communications materials including but not limited to websites, magazines, advertising, and other promotional materials. MEDA may use your submission in displays at events hosted by MEDA or in which MEDA is a participant.
  • Photos that contain sexually explicit, obscene, violent, or other objectionable or inappropriate content, as determined by MEDA in its sole discretion, are ineligible for this contest.

Who may enter?

  • This contest is open to all individuals worldwide who are at least 18 years old and the age of majority in their local jurisdiction (excluding individuals residing in Quebec, or individuals who reside in a jurisdiction where this contest in invalid under local law).
