Apply for Art Futures Fellowship Programme

Deadline Date: August 15, 2024

Donor Name: Art Futures

Grant Size: $1000 to $10,000

The Art Futures is offering an annual fellowship programme to widen participation and engagement in the arts towards more just and sustainable societies in Europe and beyond.

Art Futures, Serendipity in Action is an international non-profit organisation that supports and initiates activities with an unconditional belief in the value of the arts, culture and education.

Together with partner Space for International Cooperation [SIC] located in Athens, Greece, Art Futures offers an annual fellowship, involving a two-month residency.

The fellowship is part of a 5-year programme, running from 2023-27, aiming to research international residencies in the arts, exploring their strengths and weaknesses; reviewing the methods of selection; methods of mentoring; their value to the artists, to the host communities and to the venues. The outcomes will be presented and disseminated in a series of workshops and symposia, coming together during an event in 2027.

The selected fellows are mentored by the Critical Friends, an international platform Art Futures developed, that meets annually to discuss ‘the role of the arts and higher arts education in future societies, in an international arena’. The profile of Critical Friends is made up of experts with a proven contribution to and a successful position and seniority in, the cultural and/or higher arts education sectors.

The Fellowship prioritises proposals with a clear view on how the fellowship, including the residency period, is embedded in the overall practice of the applicant and how the Fellowship is essential for the further development of the artistic practice and discourse of the applicant. The proposal should outline how the artist will engage in meaningful interactions within the city of Athens and/or its institutions, and communities.

What you will get?

  • The Accommodation available is a fully equipped studio-apartment at the host organisation’s Space for International Cooperation [SIC] in the city centre of Athens.
  • Through the host organisation [SIC] and its local networks, including arts venues (theatres, galleries, museums etc.), educational partners, and grass root initiatives, they aim the Residency to be embedded in the cultural and social fabric of Athens. The project space offer possibilities for a final presentation of the outcomes as well as for research or collaborative works. The fellow’s needs for these possibilities must be indicated in advance, to enable us to discuss and if possible, facilitate these actions.
  • Successful applicants will additionally receive a total expense allowance of 4000 euro which is intended to cover travel costs/expenses, a visa (where necessary) and subsistence over the residency period.

Who can apply?

  • Artists from all arts disciplines were invited to apply for the 2024 fellowship.
  • This year creators from the Performing Arts are invited to apply for a fellowship, which incorporates a two-month residency in Athens from mid-February to mid-April 2025. In this context they consider ‘Performing Arts’ to be presented in the widest sense in all its creative arts forms.
