Submissions are now open for the Meta Llama Impact Innovation Awards.

They are committed to identifying and supporting the use of these models for social impact, which is why they are excited to announce the Meta Llama Impact Innovation Awards, which will grant a series of awards of up to $35K USD to organizations in Africa, the Middle East, Turkey, Asia Pacific, and Latin America tackling some of the regions’ most pressing challenges using Llama.

The Meta Llama Impact Innovation Awards are intended to further identify and support organizations who are already using Llama 2 or 3 as a core element of their work to address the challenges in their region as outlined below.

Successful applicants will:

  • Identify how their work directly impacts the selected regional issue area
  • Highlight the importance of Llama 2 or Llama 3 as a core element of their work to address the relevant issue area
  • Include a link to a public reference to the submitted project’s use of Llama 2 or Llama 3 (e.g., blog post, news article, GitHub repository, etc.)

Regional Issue Areas

They know that the biggest challenges each region faces are different, which is why they have tailored the program slightly differently for each. Applicants will apply not only within their own region but also within it’s specialized tracks, as outlined below:

  • Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey
    • Education: Leverage Llama to improve learning outcomes, increase access to quality education, and enhance the teaching experience. Applications might include AI-powered tutoring, personalized learning platforms, and intelligent tools for teachers.
    • Public services: Harness Llama to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in government services. Applications might include but are not limited to solutions for citizen engagement, AI-driven data analysis, and virtual assistants for navigating government processes.
    • Healthcare: Apply Llama to improve health outcomes, streamline clinical workflows, and enhance patient experiences. These might include AI-powered diagnostic tools, intelligent tools for healthcare workers, or personalized medicine platforms.
    • Safety and Security: Employ Llama to develop innovative solutions that enhance public safety, prevent fraud, and protect vulnerable populations. For example, AI-powered fraud detection, chatbots for emergency response, and predictive analytics for crime prevention.
  • Asia Pacific
    • Education: Leverage Llama to improve learning outcomes, increase access to quality education, and enhance the teaching experience. Applications might include AI-powered tutoring, personalized learning platforms, and intelligent tools for teachers.
    • Economic Development: Apply Llama in business to drive socio-economic value, improve efficiencies and scalability. Potential applications could include solutions that improve process automation, customer service, product development and testing, forecasting trends, or research and development.
    • Trust & Safety: Leverage Llama to build innovative solutions that defend vulnerable populations against online harms such as misinformation, privacy, safety, frauds and scams. Examples include tools that monitor online safety trends, crime prevention and fraud detection, or chatbots that assist first responders.
  • Latin America
    • Education & Culture: Leverage Llama to improve learning outcomes and / or amplify access to cultural resources. Applications might include AI-powered tutoring, personalized learning platforms, cultural education, language preservation, and intelligent tools for teachers.
    • Economic Development: Apply Llama in business to drive socio-economic value, improve efficiencies and scalability. Potential applications could include solutions that improve process automation, identify inefficiencies, advance customer service, promote product development and testing, forecasting trends market research.
    • Environment & Sustainability: Utilize Llama as a component of a solution to protect and support Latin America’s vast array of biodiversity in pursuit of a healthier and more sustainable world. Examples may include agricultural planning and management, urban resilience, carbon removal, sustainable agriculture, or green economic development.

How many awards will be issued?

  • The number of awards will vary by region and will be determined based on the caliber of applicants and applicability to the track. The total amount of awards distributed within each region will not exceed $100,000 USD.

Eligibility Criteria

  • This Award Program is open to Organizations located in AMET, APAC, and LATAM where local law does not prohibit their participation or the receipt of an award. Applicants and/or Organizations that are (i) the target of any trade sanctions or export control restrictions administered or enforced by the U.S., EU, United Nations, or UK; (ii) acting on behalf of anyone else who is the target of such trade sanctions or export control restrictions; or (iii) organized or located in Belarus, China, Russia, Ukraine, or any country or region that is the target of comprehensive economic or financial sanctions (e.g., Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine, Cuba, North Korea, Iran, and Syria, as such list may be amended) are not eligible to participate.
  • Each Organization must adhere to the following requirements: i) must not be an individual, a sole proprietor, or sole-owner entity in the jurisdiction where it is formed, ii) be an entity that is duly formed prior to June 1, 2023, and in good standing under the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Organization was formed, and iii) have the legal right to participate in this Award Program and its participation will not violate any agreement or obligation between the Organization and any third-party, and (iv) must appoint and authorized one individual to represent, act, and submit a Proposal on behalf of the Organization. The Applicant must be an employee of or affiliated with the Organization, and must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and the age of majority in the Applicant’s jurisdiction of residence.
  • Individuals who are employees, contractors, or personnel of the Grantor, or are an immediate family member of the aforementioned, are not eligible to participate in this Award Program.
