The Journalism Trust Initiative is offering a few lucky newsrooms (who must be from countries included in the ODA list) the chance to become publicly recognised as an independent trusted source of news.

The JTI Campus is the learning platform for the Journalism Trust Initiative (JTI) which has developed an industry standard that rewards ethical journalistic practices. Here you will be guided through the steps your newsroom needs to take to reach the JTI Standard and its core values of transparency, openness and ethics.

Stages

  • The JTI sets a standard of professional norms for newsrooms: benchmarks of quality and independence which are transparent and verifiable with the aim of reinstating trust. There are three stages to reaching the JTI Standard.
    • Stage 1: Self-assessment
      • An internal audit: a questionnaire covering 18 areas of media practice.
    • Stage 2: Public disclosure
      • Publish that audit to promote transparency – showing the public how you work.
    • Stage 3: Certification
      • An independent audit to confirm your newsroom complies with the JTI Standard. This is optional.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Newsrooms who enter must be from a country included in the list of ODA countries.
  • Only one entry will be considered per newsroom.
  • Only newsrooms who have completed Stage 1 (self-assessment) and Stage 2 (public disclosure) of the JTI process will be eligible to enter the competition.
  • All entries must complete the jot form entry form.
  • No entry will be considered unless it is accompanied by the necessary documentation.
  • The judges retain the right to disqualify entrants who haven’t fulfilled the criteria
  • The prize fund will cover independent audits of the winning newsrooms to establish if they qualify for JTI certification.
